News Update:

A night with full of talents

By: Teacher Mylene Chavez

CELI has mellowed for the past couple of weeks. Not this time though, for the number of students has increased recently.

Since there were many holidays last month (April), Wednesdays’ activities were also affected. However this didn’t stop the teachers and students to have a “Movie night” last May 11, 2011 and to have a variety show this Wednesday, May 18, 2011.

This simply shows that if students, teachers and CELI’s employees will join force, expect more great things to happen.

Abortion

Paul (Lee Young Jae)

The picture describes one young woman throwing away the baby. But there’s sadness in her face. She doesn’t want to do it intentionally but it happened unfortunately. This picture talks about abortion. Abortion is a crime. It is killing an unborn child. Most people who do abortion are the ones who don’t want to conceive for they don’t have the ability to raise a baby. They just want to have a good relationship with their boyfriends forever.

The experience of doing abortion affects her life. It feels like murdering sometimes they dream of that. The teacher teaches students from a young sexual education and parents should use the materials for preventing from getting pregnant. The government must focus on this and proper education should be given. For this matter, parents play an important role in sex education. It should start in the family.

Taking care of the old folks

Maiko (Maiko Okuno)

There are many weak people all over the country. It is big issue. Old people don’t live with their family nowadays. Most young couples don’t want to live together. Men often have to transfer to other places sometimes overseas. We used to take care of our parents by family but not many people do now. We build up many nursing homes, but still older wait live in. They don’t only stay but also commute from their house between mornings to evening. I understand their family’s side. It is hard to take care at home all the time with small number of family. In my own opinion, it is better to use day service to refresh. Everybody needs an own time and space to be more friendly to each other. Handicap has hard life. They might feel prejudiced, discriminated, chanceless, uncomfortable. Those parents worry their future. Generally parents are fast to away. But some of are already separated and feel no love from their parents. We have group home which people live together. Daytime they go to work where all handicap work from different places. So they can make other friends and feel the other side of the world. Person also can live by himself but at least they need a helper at home. They have not much choice to work just restricted places. Normally, they have obstacles when they do something. It’s difficult to earn the money so government pay and help them but still hard life. Homeless people have many problem nowadays.

Family Relations

Olga (Popova Olga)

Usually, a child begins to go to kindergarten around 2-3 years old. The Russian parents try to enroll their children to different developed schools. For example, sporting, English, painting, or musical schools. A child attends classes twice a week.

As for upbringing, Russian upbringing was based on strictness and submission of child to parents. For example, a child cannot make nose if there are adults around.

Now most families apply democratic method of upbringing. But it doesn’t mean that a child can do everything, condemn and reject everything that they couldn’t understand. A person who thinks, looks and lives not so as others, has a difficult life in such society. Unlike person often leaves society if it’s possible.

WORD OF THE WEEK

Prepared By: Teacher Joey Tecson

PROCRASTINATE

• (Verb) - to put off doing something; to hestitate; to delay unnecessarily.

Etymology:
Procrastinate- borrowed from the Latin “procrastinates”, which is the past participle of procrastinare, meaning to put off until tomorrow (pro- forward + crastinus belonging to tomorrow).

Discussion:
There is something about having a deadline that inspires us to work. For many of us, if we are operating without a clear-cut deadline we are barely operating at all. Like I always say, "Why does today what you can put off 'till tomorrow?" That being said, I know very few successful people that procrastinate. It really is an unhealthy frame of mind to be in. Procrastination leads to tension and feelings of worthlessness. It is better to just accomplish what needs to be done and get on with the rest of your life. That is, sadly, much easier said than done.

American Jokes

Prepared By: Teacher Shirra Augusto
  1. A panda walks into a cafe. He orders a sandwich, eats it, then draws a gun and fires two shots in the air. "Why?" asks the confused waiter, as the panda makes towards the exit. The panda produces a badly punctuated wildlife manual and tosses it over his shoulder. "I'm a panda," he says, at the door. "Look it up." The waiter turns to the relevant entry and, sure enough, finds an explanation... "Panda. Large black-and-white bear-like mammal, native to China. Eats, shoots and leaves."
  2. Q: What is the closest thing similar to a woman's period? A: Your salary, it comes once a month lasts about 5- days and if it doesn't come, it means you are in big trouble.
  3. Q: Tarzan and the animals went to the river to take a bath. Tarzan removed his clothes. All the animals laughed. Tarzan asked "Why"? A: The animals told him. Your tail is in front".
  4. A guy is reading his paper when his wife walks up behind him and smacks him on the back of the head with a frying pan.
He asks, "What was that for?"
She says, "I found a piece of paper in your pocket with 'Betty Sue' written on it." He says, "Jeez, honey, remember last week when I went to the track? 'Betty Sue' was the name of the horse I went there to beton."
She shrugs and walks away. Three days later he's reading his paper when she walks up behind him and smacks him on the back of the head again with the frying pan. He asks, "What was that for?" She answers, "Your horse called."
  5. Girl: When we get married, I want to share all your worries, troubles and lighten your burden.

RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM HR WOMEN

Any organization has to hurdle on issues and concerns from its people. In the same reason, an organization like CLEVERLEARN will also carefully look at that to be a topnotch in the ESL business. The Human Resource Department has formed three people to work in a team. In this interview, we will be discovering about these women at the Human Resource Department. You may have something to share about them but surely you’ll find something about how they will answer random questions.

Liza Francisco Gutladera is with Cleverlearn for more than 3 years. She masters the compensation and benefits but she’s definitely a learner. She never stops in learning new things as she practices her profession. She is a person who’s firm about doing things right. But wait, you know Ms. Liza better than I do! So can we just shift into light questioning about her?

Seriously, let’s start the ball rolling…

If Ms. Liza has to choose between being a famous singer and a dynamic dancer, what will she be?

I would choose to be a dynamic dancer because in dancing there are many kinds like Hiphop, Ballroom, Modern dancing. I know that it needs lots of practice before we could make it perfect and I find it very challenging.

Though, it has been a fact that Ms. Liza wanted to be a dynamic dancer over a famous singer. Let’s take note also that she is a good rapper. Challenge her with rapping skills and you’ll see how she will garner the prize!

If the world will end in 30 minutes, what will you do?

The first 10 minutes I will call my husband and whisper him the sweetest word. The next 10 minutes, I will call at home just to hear the voice of my baby. The last 10 minutes, I will pray to God, the most sincere prayer and ask him for forgiveness and thank him for all the blessings and kindness that he gave to me. He let me live in this world with full of good people around me.

Ms. Liza is committed to do her work well and also to provide her family’s needs. If you have to make your oath in 3 sentences, how will it be?

I promise to do my duty as a mother, to protect and love my Son.
I promise to be a good and loving wife, to listen and understand my husband.
I promise in giving good services to all the Employees of Cleverlearn and the Management.

You can understand Ms. Liza if you can decipher the things that she shares about the if clause, but wait the goal is not yet complete. There is this other woman in the team named Sherylyn Iyas Abing. Her officemates call her Sherry but you’ll later learn that she has been called with different names, which is dependent on the setting. Anyway, that doesn’t matter but just try to unravel how she is with the questions I throw to her.

Ms. Sherry, if you are not a HR practitioner, what are you doing?

I’ll be staying at home and will do a lot of chores. But seriously, I’ll be doing research. I always love the work and the traveling part. I am even willing to do it for free for as long as I got free plane ticket, free meals and free accommodation.

Suppose that I’ll give you the job and you have to choose the place, where will it be?

Right now, I’m thinking of having it somewhere in Guimaras. There’s a place named Baras Beach which I really loved to visit. Since the place is an island, maybe I can do research on plant species.

What is it in your life that you’ve considered your greatest achievement?

One thing that I considered an achievement is being part of volunteer groups. It feels good to see people being helped and to see people who are willing to provide help.

How do you describe yourself?

I consider myself as a cognitive thinker but I’m trying to be a cognitive miser.

The above random questions with their random answers will tell you about these people. They are from Cleverlearn and they will love to meet you. Anyway, you have a lot to learn from yourself as well so try answering those random questions above. Enjoy!

Health Tips for Beach-Goers

by: Joma Valor T. Echavez soucrce:http://www.gearingupright.com/health-tips-for-beach-goers<

One of the most accessible places wherein you can engage in water sports is the beach. While many consider such activities as healthy pursuits, precautions still need to be undertaken. As you expose yourself to all that sunlight while swimming or jet skiing, you need to watch out for certain wellness risks. Read on to know how you can avoid beach-related illnesses.

Choose a Safer Time of Day

The sun’s UV rays are most dangerous from 10 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon; thus avoid going out during these times to avoid sunburn.

Bring SPF 15 Lotions

Before heading for the shore, apply SPF lotion to every single part of your body that will be exposed to the sun, including your feet, lips, and ears. Also, use waterproof sunblock if you wish to take a dip.

Be on the Lookout for Any Source of Shade

As the heat becomes too much to bear, scour the area you are in for any place with shade. When there is none available, bring along a large umbrella.

Take Essential Measures to Protect Your Eyes

Sunlight has the potential to damage your eyes thus, a pair of sunglasses with UV protection is ideal whether you go yachting or surfing.

Get Hydrated

All that heat can accelerate your physical constitution’s dehydration process. To keep your body fluids in check, pack a sufficient supply of water whether you are sunbathing on a boat’s deck or floating on the open sea.

Follow these simple tips and you will come out from your experience free from any form of health hazards.
