Halloween at CELI
CELI looked like a setting of a horror movie as some of the areas of the school were decorated with nightmarish designs and objects of horror as it celebrated the Halloween last October 26-28.
As with the previous years, this year’s Halloween event presented a spine-chilling and exciting experience not only to the students and teachers but also to the staff and other people who were around during the activity.
One of the exciting activities was the Halloween decoration contest. Each of the four teams(yellow, green, blue, red) really showcased their creativity and ingenuity in putting-up out of this world bone – cracking and hair – raising scenarios in their respective areas. Moreover, while decorating their assigned places, everyone enjoyed each other’s company adding to the excitement. Each team did their best. Each had something up their sleeves out of fright. The live props that each team prepared really resembled to those terrifying characters you see in those scary movies. Surely, the judges had a hard time rating each design.
Another thing that added to the hype was the costumes that everyone was wearing costumes of white ladies, fairies, zombies and so many other dreadful creatures. The costumes were worn from 8:00 till the party was over in the evening. Face painting was also available and haunted house was also offered.
Finally, everyone was on awe as each team’s dancers set the dance floor on fire with their hot dance numbers. The dancers grooved to the beat of Halloween music giving an eerie yet exciting atmosphere. Each performance was worthy to be recommended. It’s the result of the effort that each team members gave who often went home late at night because of their dance practices. But all the sacrifices were paid-off as their audience applauded to such brilliant presentations.
To wrap it up, one could say that it was a memorable event. This wouldn’t happen without everyone’s cooperation. Certainly, everyone is looking forward for a repeat performance or perhaps even better next year.

Cleverlearn Experience
By: Max
I’d like to tell you about my experience in CELI and Cebu. I came here a month ago with my girlfriend. She is working here and I decided to learn English in CELI.
At first, Philippines gave me a not-so-good impression. Many unusual and terrible things strucked me such as lots of beggars, some dirty places and crazy traffic. Also, it gave me a thought that if this is an English-speaking country, why half of the people in Cebu don’t know how to speak English. Nevertheless, people around were very friendly, polite and always attentive.
While studying English in CELI, my English knowledge has improved, my vocabulary became wider and I became more confident speaking the language.
The staffs are always polite and attentive --- they quickly resolve all questions. And, I like my teachers, they make me eager to go to class everyday.
I hope that before I finish my studies here, my English knowledge will become better. Also, I hope that everything around school will still be fun and interesting as time goes by.
My Teachers’ Appearance and Personality
By: M. Ishihara (Katsu)

I have 3 teachers in this academy and I like to share their personalities and appearance. Mr. Joenard is 21 years old handsome boy. He is kind, eager and friendly.
Miss Caress is 24 years old and a clever lady. She is very beautiful and she is friendly, neat and funny.
Mr. Joniefer is 30 years old and a friendly man. He has medium height and has round face. He is kind, eager and creative.
Do you agree on the saying “English” is a Universal Language
By: Hitoshi
I’m completely in favor of this saying. I guess that there are number of advantages and disadvantages to decide “English is the world’s common language”. In the next paragraph, I will show several instances that lead to my opinion.
First, nowadays, English is the most spoken language in the world. Of course, that point of view is based on the speaker’s population. Native tongue population like Chinese and Portugese have less English language speakers. This means that if you want to communicate to someone all over the world, English is more superior than other languages.
Second, in my country, Japan is a developed country but almost all of us cannot speak English. I hope that more Japanese would learn how to speak English for easy introduction of our products, food and culture. Moreover, I believe that Japanese are the most polite people in the world. When we go to abroad, our personality gives a nice image for other foreigners. Someday these action or behavior will give good results for us.
Third, information via Internet consists most of all in English. The best way to know the state-of-the-art technology, to search popular restaurants and to confirm ways of transportation is to use English.
In conclusion, may of non-native English speakers are studying English now, so native English speakers should make effort to use simple style of English. Both of us should try it so our world becomes better.

12 Easy Steps to Become a Great Employee
As a manager I see a lot of people just doing their job, and then go home. They have no goal, and no purpose, they just do what they are supposed to do. They do not perform badly and they do not stand out as good. If this is your case you might be the grey mouse that nobody notices at work. You are replaceable! Do you want to secure your job? Do great? And even maybe get a promotion? I got promoted twice in just about a year. These 12 easy steps are a guarantee that you will be impossible to replace. And if the timing is right the door will open for promotion sooner or later, will you enter?
1. Be on time. There is nothing more annoying for a leader than people arriving late to work. And did you know that your fellow co-workers get demotivated if you turn up late? According to a survey I had at my office, 30 % says that they are influenced in a negative way, when others turn up late.
2. Care about your co-worker. When did you last praise a co-worker for a great job done? It is not only up to the manager to praise good efforts. A good feedback from a co-worker can be of greater value. Be friendly, including and do offer your time to help others. Pour them coffee. Do positive stuff for others and others do positive stuff for you!
3. Look good. This is not about attraction and beautiful people. The point is to dress well, be representative and take care of your personal hygiene. What is the dress code like at your work? Try to follow up. If all others have a suit, so should you. Take a shower now and then. If you always dress good, your boss will notice and just by that get a good impression. If you always dress improperly your boss will notice that too. Who will be trusted with the important client? The one that looks good, or the one that might scare the client?
4. Work with goals all the time. How many sales did you get yesterday? How many cows did you milk? How many tasks did you complete? Do you know your average? Write three goals on a piece of paper. One is set to be your absolute minimum. The next is a goal a bit higher, this is a good day. The third goal is the highest, and if you reach it you’ve just had a great day. If you always manage to pass your absolute minimum, it’s time to adjust your goals, when you do, adjust all three.
5. Reflect and speak to your coach. This one is linked to the last point about working with goals. Find time to reflect about the last week or day, why did you reach your goals? Why did you not reach your goals? Could you have done something different? Is there room for improvement? Did you do something that worked great? I increased my sales many years ago when I stopped asking the customer this question; “How may I help you today?” With this question; “Do you see something you would like to learn more about?” I sold even more when I learned about closing techniques. At my current work we found ways to reduce the time between each caller with 30 sec. giving us the power to handle 80 more calls each day. If you have a manager or a coach, speak to them about your results, they might guide you to see more clearly how to improve.
6. Detach yourself from you pay check. Your salary is of no importance, if it is, you are many steps away from being an excellent employee. I have heard statements like: “Give me more money, and I will produce more”, “I do not give it all, because my pay is not high enough” – Guess what, if you think like this you’ve already lost. I will never give a rise to this personality. If you make pay unimportant, and give it your best, you will be rewarded. If you have accepted a job offer, you have accepted you salary, leave it there.
7. Learn and share. Add value to yourself. Learn more, read about you field of expertise. Most promotions are equal to getting more responsibility and in most cases leadership. Acquire those skills now. Learn your markets; learn about business strategies in your fields. Learn how to motivate others. And when you learn, share your knowledge. Teach others your expertise, motivate others, and take care of others. Make sure you contribute to a happy workplace.
8. Grab that ball! Attitude is everything. I have a theory that divides humans in two groups, those who are afraid of the ball, and those that want the ball at any cost. When I hold motivational speeches a basketball is one of my best props. If you ever saw how a basketball game starts, you’ll know what I mean. I compare the ball to challenges. If you board suddenly decide to sell napkins, darn, we shall be the best napkin sellers in the world. If management decide that we shall get a new task, bring it on, and we shall create gold. The business world is changing fast, you need to be able to adapt and positive about it. I hate it when I hear people say: “We never did this before, why should we do it now?”, “This task should be done by others” and “I do not know how to do this”.
9. Involve yourself. Be pro active towards your manager, ask to discuss topics with them, ask to be evaluated and ask to reflect together. But do not bug them down; remember you need to produce results as well. Volunteer if tasks are given, especially if it is in a topic you love.
10. Get to know your company. Understand how your company works. If you work in a large company, you might just be a small piece of the puzzle. If you know how your company operates, you’ll easier see the importance of you job, and you might even see where there is room for improvement. If you have a faulty product, it would be nice to know someone who might actually do something about it. You might also discover that bonding with other departments might improve the production all over, as you might learn from each others. If you have a sales department at your job, what can you or your departments do to increase sales? If you work in a small company you might get a high influence, if you know your markets and can produce good ideas that work.
11. Be a good example. Don’t be the one falling asleep under the table at all social happenings, if you drink, don’t get drunk. Have fun, and smile. Be positive about your job, and focus on positivity. Do not get tangled up in negative conversations. There is a difference between criticism and negativity. You can be critical if you have the arguments. But remember, if you are negative, you will create negative co-workers. Treat people good on your way up, cause you might meet them on your way down. Step up to the challenge when needed.
12. Relax and recover. Use your spare time wisely, find a hobby you like or focus on your family. Work is important, but work to live, do not live to work. Find activities that give you energy. Get enough sleep; enjoy your friends and family. Take a walk outside. Do not spend the entire weekend indoors playing world of warcraft. Read something that inspires you. Kiss your spouse. Do one positive thing right now. Do you have chores that need to be done? Do one right now. Clean your bath, or make your living room a nice place to be. Surprise someone with a gift. It is up to you.

10 Tips To Healthy Eating
Source: www.realtime.net/anr/10eattip
1.) Eat a variety of nutrient-rich foods. You need more than 40 different nutrients for good health, and no single food supplies them all. Your daily food selection should include bread and other whole-grain products; fruits; vegetables; dairy products; and meat, poultry, fish and other protein foods. How much you should eat depends on your calorie needs. Use the Food Guide Pyramid and the Nutrition Facts panel on food labels as handy references.
2.) Enjoy plenty of whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Surveys show most Americans don't eat enough of these foods. Do you eat 6-11 servings from the bread, rice, cereal and pasta group, 3 of which should be whole grains? Do you eat 2-4 servings of fruit and 3-5 servings of vegetables? If you don't enjoy some of these at first, give them another chance. Look through cookbooks for tasty ways to prepare unfamiliar foods.
3.) Maintain a healthy weight. The weight that's right for you depends on many factors including your sex, height, age and heredity. Excess body fat increases your chances for high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, some types of cancer and other illnesses. But being too thin can increase your risk for osteoporosis, menstrual irregularities and other health problems. If you're constantly losing and regaining weight, a registered dietitian can help you develop sensible eating habits for successful weight management. Regular exercise is also important to maintaining a healthy weight.
4.) Eat moderate portions. If you keep portion sizes reasonable, it's easier to eat the foods you want and stay healthy. Did you know the recommended serving of cooked meat is 3 ounces, similar in size to a deck of playing cards? A medium piece of fruit is 1 serving and a cup of pasta equals 2 servings. A pint of ice cream contains 4 servings. Refer to the Food Guide Pyramid for information on recommended serving sizes.
5.) Eat regular meals. Skipping meals can lead to out-of-control hunger, often resulting in overeating. When you're very hungry, it's also tempting to forget about good nutrition. Snacking between meals can help curb hunger, but don't eat so much that your snack becomes an entire meal.
6.) Reduce, don't eliminate certain foods. Most people eat for pleasure as well as nutrition. If your favorite foods are high in fat, salt or sugar, the key is moderating how much of these foods you eat and how often you eat them. Identify major sources of these ingredients in your diet and make changes, if necessary. Adults who eat high-fat meats or whole-milk dairy products at every meal are probably eating too much fat. Use the Nutrition Facts panel on the food label to help balance your choices. Choosing skim or low-fat dairy products and lean cuts of meat such as flank steak and beef round can reduce fat intake significantly. If you love fried chicken, however, you don't have to give it up. Just eat it less often. When dining out, share it with a friend, ask for a take-home bag or a smaller portion.
7.) Balance your food choices over time. . Not every food has to be "perfect." When eating a food high in fat, salt or sugar, select other foods that are low in these ingredients. If you miss out on any food group one day, make up for it the next. Your food choices over several days should fit together into a healthy pattern.
8.) Know your diet pitfalls. To improve your eating habits, you first have to know what's wrong with them. Write down everything you eat for three days. Then check your list according to the rest of these tips. Do you add a lot of butter, creamy sauces or salad dressings? Rather than eliminating these foods, just cut back your portions. Are you getting enough fruits and vegetables? If not, you may be missing out on vital nutrients.
9.) Make changes gradually. Just as there are no "superfoods" or easy answers to a healthy diet, don't expect to totally revamp your eating habits overnight. Changing too much, too fast can get in the way of success. Begin to remedy excesses or deficiencies with modest changes that can add up to positive, lifelong eating habits. For instance, if you don't like the taste of skim milk, try low-fat. Eventually you may find you like skim, too.
10.) Remember, foods are not good or bad. Select foods based on your total eating patterns, not whether any individual food is "good" or "bad." Don't feel guilty if you love foods such as apple pie, potato chips, candy bars or ice cream. Eat them in moderation, and choose other foods to provide the balance and variety that are vital to good health.
